Recent paintings

I have been pumping out one or two paintings a month, and realized today that I had made quite a bit. These are the printouts of my artworks made in the past six months or so. Each printout is A3 size (30cm X 42cm, or 11.7" x16.5"). Each can be printed out in larger sizes.

Child's drawing

Cucumber is growing in my yard. Its new stem is reaching the end of the supporting net, but is eager to grow more. I took pic of it, selected only the greenish areas, cut and pasted on the dark green background.

Turtle Island

I added colors and textures to the turtle line drawing.

Line drawing

A drawing of a sea turtle. I am trying to depict the turtle as a symbol of the Nature, from which tiny offsprings are born. Again I am drawing on 50-year-old washi paper.

My photographer friend sent me this photo the other day. It is the reflection on a river. Water runs and the reflected images constantly change. Keeping those in mind I came up with this haiku.

The recent heavy rainfall caused flood and landslides in many parts of Japan. Hiroshima area is especially hard hit. Viewing the news of it, I came up with this free verse haiku and the photo image.

Reaching for the light

For this painting, I made new color texture with water color and washi paper. How the paint bleeds on washi was just perfect for underwater painting.

The Creation according to Tenrikyo

This illustration is based on the creation story of the Tenrikyo Church, of which I am a priest.
I created this years ago, mainly for children to enjoy.
Since then, I have experimented and acquired new techniques in painting.
I’ve incorporated my new techniques in this one.

Here is a link to the explanation of the Creation Story.

I passed a swimming pool which was in the process of being refreshed for summer use.
I took a photo then photoshopped it.
But, I felt it needed something more.
I remember an illustration of a boat, I had made years ago, so I photoshopped it into the photograph.
Although the haiku and photo are too close for a photo haiku, I don’t mind its nearness.

My new painting "Rainbow Island". I put rainbows all over the picture plane, even on a fish and on the reflection of a pond.
