Changing the direction of the flow

 The rainbow, a symbol of hope, changes the direction of the river flow.

世の中を川に見立て、人々の暮らしを船に乗る人々で表しました。コロナ、気候変動、不安定な政治・社会状況の流れが滝を落下しようとするのを、虹（希望の象徴）が流れを変えています。上部左手に赤い家があります。神の館の象徴です。横の梅の花は神の教えの象徴です。その梅の花が虹を持つ人に届いて力を与えています。

Something unchanging

 The circular form of the drawing symbolizes the cycle of seasons.

また、オーバーコートを引っ張り出す季節になりました。コロナの時代でも変わらないものがある、ということを俳句にしました。

Stop thinking in circles

 The painting is about stopping going around the circles in thinking, which we all often do, though knowing such thinking brings no solution. In the painting, I am showing a way to stop such a thinking.

この絵のタイトルは「堂々巡りの終わり」。私たちは難しい問題を抱えたとき、ついつい堂々巡りの考え方に陥ってしまいます。それは自分の考えだけでどうにかしようとする結果ではないでしょうか。そんな時は、人を超えた神の叡智にもたれてみるのも一考です。絵の中で茶色の道が堂々巡りの道です。暗いトンネルがあったり、石が転がっていたりします。そんな陸路ではなく水路（おやさまの叡智）を使うとはるか彼方に向かうことができるのです。

 For trees with homes and ones without homes, I wish all a Merry Christmas, is the idea of this painting.

この絵のタイトルは、「季節の喜びを分かち合う」。クリスマスや新年の季節です。その喜びを家を持つ人、家のないの人、みんなに分かち合う姿を表しています。真ん中は家、その周りの木々は家のない人の象徴です。

 Autumn avenues are carpeted with fallen leave of warm colors. My town has many gingko trees, and streets and sidewalks look like what this painting shows.

この絵のタイトルは「秋の街路」。私の住む町には多くの銀杏の木があります。銀杏の葉が散ると歩道が黄色いカーペットをひいたようになります。もみじや南京ハゼなど赤い葉が歩道に敷き詰められるところもあります。赤い道は、おやさまの道。私の町の心のメインロードです。

Beginning of a cycle

 Leaves fall as the winter approaches. I like to view this time of year as a beginning of a new cycle. In the painting, tree branches are bare, but at the trees's root, there are signs of new life for a new cycle of seasons.

落ち葉の季節、冬がもうそこまで来ています。私は、この季節を一年のサイクルの始まりと捉えています。絵の中では、枝は裸になっていますが、木の根っこを見ると新しいサイクルが始動しています。地面の上だけ見ていると、なんだかうら悲しい感じになってしまいますが、地面の下では楽しみが生まれているのです。見えるものだけで判断せず、見えないものに希望を見つけてみましょう。

 There are more lives to the fallen leaves. That is the idea of this painting.

落ち葉、というとそれで葉の一生は終わり、というイメージがあります。私も70歳を超え、落ち葉のような年頃になって来ました。この絵では、落ちた葉っぱが舞い上がり、鳥に姿を変えて天に羽ばたいていく姿を描きました。終わりではない。まだ先の楽しみがある。そんな思いを込めています。死を現世の区切りとし、来世があると考えれば、出直してくる楽しみがあります。

Autumn light

 Colors of the leaves in the autumn are best viewed when sunlight passes through the leaves. So that is what I try to show here in this painting. I treat the sun rays as tree branches.

秋の色づいた葉は、日の光を通して見るのがベストです。それがこの絵のテーマで、タイトルはずばり「秋の光」。太陽の光線を枝に見立て、銀杏やもみじなど色ずく葉を茂らせました。光がないと色はない。画家である私には光がとても大切です。

Sharing the clear water

 My last name "Shimizu" means clear water. But this painting is about sharing of the clear water. The clear water is the symbol of the mind without self-centeredness, and sharing it makes the world a better place.

Another aspect of the water is depicted in the painting; water has an ability to fit into container of any size.

水は私たちの暮らしには無くてはならないものです。特にきれいな水は。人の心もきれいな方がいいですね。きれいな心は人を思いやる心で、それをお互いに持つことが世の中を暮らしやすくします。

また、水の性質に柔軟性があります。いろんな器に順応します。水のような心になれば色々な状況にうまく対応していけるでしょう。そんな思いを込めてこの絵を描きました。

Preparation for the rebirth--sharing warmth

 As I get older, how I spend days until no more days come becomes a great concern. Making the others warm will make me warm in return. That is one way I like to spend my remaining days.

私は団塊の世代です。人生はだんだんと終わりに近ずいてきました。人生を終える前に、私が今まで身につけたおやさまの御教えが私の唯一の財産です。それを若い家族や他の人々に伝えるのが私の”終活”だと思っています。そんな気持ちをこの絵に託しました。

Harvesting and sowing

 In this painting, you see both harvesting and sowing scenes. All farmers know the importance of sowing after harvesting. It insures future life. For non-farmers, the same applies.

この絵のタイトルは、「収穫と種まき」です。農家の人たちは、収穫の後の種まきが大切なことをよく知っておられます。種を蒔き続けること、それが将来の収穫に繋がります。農業以外の人々にとっても同じことが当てはまります。種を蒔くのは、神への報恩感謝の行いです。人が喜ぶ種をまく。それが徳となり人々の人生を陽気ぐらしに導いて行くのです。

Moonlight performance

 Japanese love to view moon in September traditionally. I added musical groups, both modern and old band, in my painting. The old band is a Gagaku. The September full moon will be entertained by the bands.

この絵のタイトルは、「月夜の公演」です。人々がお月見の行事でいろんな演奏をしたりして楽しんでいる姿です。月は夜空に、日は左端の家の中にいて、人々の陽気な姿を楽しんでおられます。

Patching up an umbrella

The umbrella is a thing of protection, like facial masks to virus, but it has many holes so people are busy patching them up.

この絵のタイトルは、「傘の穴ふさぎ」です。コロナの時代、マスクを着けてウイルスを防ぎます。傘は雨から身を守りますが、穴だらけでは用を成しません。コロナ対策はいろいろな面で不十分で、穴のあいた傘のようですね。絵の中の人々は協力して穴ふさぎに努めています。穴をふさぐのに梅の花（おやさまの御教え）を使っています。月日はその姿を頼もしくご覧になっています。

 

Balancing on balls

 The title of this painting is "Balancing on balls". The ball is a symbol of globe or earth, on which we live. What with all the worrisome changes happening on the earth, we need to learn how to balance and stand on the earth. The pink Ume flowers are symbol of something great that helps us keep the balance.

この絵のタイトルは「玉乗り」です。玉は私たちの住む地球の象徴です。近年、地球上では気候変動や社会情勢などに様々な変化が現れてきています。その変化にうまく対応していくことを、玉乗りの技に見立てました。技を磨いている人々は梅の花を持っています。梅の花はおやさまの御教えの象徴です。その御教えを頼りに技を磨くのです。

Old pond

This painting is titled "Old pond". I got inspired by the old pond haiku by Basho. In the painting, one guy is writing haiku, and the other painting. Both are trying to give a "splash" in the old traditions.

この絵のタイトルは、「古池」です。松尾芭蕉は「古池や蛙飛び込む水の音」という句を詠みました。伝統的な俳句の世界に飛び込んで波紋を起こす。古いものは守りつつ、新しいものを加えていく、とう芭蕉の句作姿勢が詠まれています。私もその姿勢にあやかって、伝統的な絵の要素を踏まえながら新しい絵画を描きたいと思っています。寓話的な絵は昔からありますが、その伝統に、おやさまの御教えを元に描く「教画」を加えるのが私の試みです。

 この絵のタイトルは、「雨後」です。「雨降って地固まる」と言われます。コロナの時代は世界中に大雨が降っているような状態です。「雨後」にはきれいな虹が出るように、月日親神の守護で、必ず希望が現れてきます。

オリンピック発祥の地であるギリシア、その地で発掘された水瓶の装飾絵柄をもとにこの絵を描きました。オリンピックを表現するために、走る人々の頭に五輪をつけて見ました。

コロナ禍で国内外の人の動きが鈍りました。しかし、渡り鳥はいつも通りにやってきます。私の家の周りにもツバメが元気よく飛び交っています。今は、人間にとって普通ではない時期ですが、変わらない自然の営みがあることは慰めになります。

 育てて「いただいた」という感謝の歌です。絵の中では、両親が子供を木の登るのを助け、その子供たちが木の天辺で花開いています。肩車をしてもらって虹に触れている子もいます。そんな様子を月日と梅の屋敷（おやさまのシンボル）が見守っています。

 私の住む町の側に鹿のいる公園があります。とても有名なのでいつか絵にしたいと思っていました。簡単な線画で鹿を表現することができたので、この絵で試して見ました。その公園では人力車も走っています。

故マイケル・ジャクソンの音頭取りで、世界中の著名な歌手がこの歌を歌うために集まりました。その歌詞をヒントにしてこの絵を描きました。人の形をした大地がジグソウーパズルのように組み合わさっています。円の形にしたのは地球を想起させるためです。

団塊の世代の私にとってはビートルズの存在はとても大きい。素晴らしい歌をたくさん聞かせてくれました。この歌のように楽観的な気分にさせてくれるものもあります。コロナ禍の中で聞くと気持ちが楽になります。この絵もそのような効果を狙いました。右下には雲の下で右往左往している姿、そして雲の上には光り輝く世界。雲の上って、いつも晴天なんです。

Singing in the rain

 It is Tsuyu (rainy) season in Japan now. We hare more rainy days than the fine ones. The clouds cover the sky most of the days, shutting off the sunshine, making us feel gloomy. The stresses from the covid infection is like the clouds, too. So now, we have two layers of gloomy clouds. A song like "Singing in the rain" is good to listen to during the time like now. This painting is inspired by the song.
