Singing in the rain

 It is Tsuyu (rainy) season in Japan now. We hare more rainy days than the fine ones. The clouds cover the sky most of the days, shutting off the sunshine, making us feel gloomy. The stresses from the covid infection is like the clouds, too. So now, we have two layers of gloomy clouds. A song like "Singing in the rain" is good to listen to during the time like now. This painting is inspired by the song.

「雨に唄えば」の歌詞にインスピレーションを得てこの絵を描きました。

A painting inspired by the song, "Sukiyaki", or "Looking up as I walk"

 Years ago, a Jp song called Sukiyaki (Ue o muite aruko, or Looking up as I walk) hit music chart in the world. Though the original lyric is kinda sad, the tune is up beat and light. Non-Jp speakers around the world were attracted by the tune, I think. So, here too,  my painting is inspired by the tune more than the lyric, though there are some elements from it.

「上を向いて歩こう」の歌詞にヒントを得てこの絵を描きました。涙をこぼさないように手の平から天に向かっていく姿にして見ました。希望の象徴である虹の一部を悲しみを堪えて歩いている男の人に届けようとしています。

Try to remember

 A painting inspired by a song called "Try to remember" by Brothers Four. I tried to remember my Septembers dating back to my younger years, like going to Hawaii on a boat at age 15, my school days as an art students, and a rock festival at the Diamond Head crater. I rode bicycle then and still do.

私は15歳の時、ハワイに移住しました。夏休みに海を渡り、九月から高校に通い始めました。英語がさっぱりの状態で、良い思い出より、辛いことの方が多い時期が続きました。でもそんな時を今思い出すと、この歌の歌詞のようになります。私自身の九月をもとに絵を描きました。

私は、カズオ・イシグロのファンです。最近作「クララと太陽」も発売されてすぐにKindleで読みました。物語の中でロボットのクララが太陽光をnourishmentにします。この言葉は、１栄養物、栄養のある食べ物。２（心・知性などを）養う物、糧。３栄養を与える（与えられること）、育成、、、と訳されています。私たち人間にとってnourishmentmは何なのかを考えながらこの絵を描きました。

What a wonderful world

 I did this painting while listening to a song "What a wonderful world" by Louis Armstrong and the others. The song sounds a little too optimistic at the time of languishing and stagnant Covid time, but I think that because the time is difficult, some optimism is welcome, hence this painting.
