Tokyo eyes
I come a little early for an appointment at the US Embassy in Tokyo.
I find a bench at a nearby temple and take a seat. Two old sakura trees have
changed their cape from flowers to new green leaves, which now light like
the stained glass, and cast dots of light on me.
A police box, the size of a telephone booth, stands at the
embassy gate, and a policeman sends careful glances to me. Our eyes
sometimes meet. I send him back a silent message:
“No worry, officer, I am a gentle haijin, not a terrorist, just killing time.”
A stray cat observes the whole exchange, turn its head, and walks away.
